On Tuesday night, the Coppell City Council declared the month of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October was also declared Fire Prevention Month, with this year’s theme being “Cooking Safety Starts With You.”

The council reviewed residential zoning requests during the night as well. The first application concerned the request to continue subletting a room in a Bradford Drive home. Council member Jim walker opposed the request

“I still view this as operating a commercial business in a residential area,” Walker said. “I think this is a severe threat to the property value and peaceful existence of everyone that lives in Coppell. I am not going to be able to vote for this.”

The second request was a renovation proposed by Blackberry Farm to become a gated community as well as have the homeowners association be responsible for community maintenance. After more than an hour of debate, the council has postponed this matter until their next meeting.

The council will meet for its next regular meeting on Oct. 24.
