More than a dozen Coppell athletes sign to a college tomorrow at 9 a.m. via a virtual signing day on facebook.com/coppellisd.

Amidst stay-at-home orders, many athletes still train and practice any way they can. Among these are a select few who will play their respective sport at the next level, including senior baseball player Joey Bonfiglio, who signs with Garden City (Kan.) Community College.

“It’s always been a dream to play at the next level,” Bonfiglio said. “I’m happy to be able to say I’m doing it right now and I’m always just trying to drive, push myself and be the best player I can be.”

Bonfiglio, along with the rest of the baseball and softball teams, had his senior season put to a halt very early. The Cowboys had played a few games – none of which in District 6-6A – and performed well.

“I was definitely looking forward to the season and I thought we had a really good group of guys,” Bonfiglio said. “When this whole virus struck, we were just starting to get on a roll as a team. It was really heartbreaking that they canceled our season.”

However, Bonfiglio and 14 other Coppell athletes will play the sport they love as they continue into college.
