Switching schools presents many opportunities, especially when moving from a Class 2A school with just 140 kids to a big 6A campus with 3,200 students.
A 2A school is very different from Coppell High School where students K-12 all attend school in the same building in the high school. A building which is only one hallway long.
From an academic standpoint at my other school, students did not have access to their own iPads nor Macs in most of the classrooms for online work. I feel like with iPads and Macs gives students more opportunities especially now that it is part of the technologically era. Its great that Coppell offers students such great opportunities.
I came from West Hardin High School outside of Beaumont in southeastern portion of Texas, that only has two classrooms with PCs in them for students to use. Clubs and organizations like The Sidekick have a staff of approximately 50 students whereas a 2A school newspaper has four students on The Spill staff.
From an athletic standpoint going from the athletic program sharing one locker room and only having varsity sports at school and nine kids on the basketball team to Coppell with over 15 sports for both girls and boys each sport having their own locker room and about five teams per sport and practice facilities for individual teams, Coppell offers so many opportunities for all of their students to participate in.
But as in a 2A school you can walk down the hallway and know every kid in the school and know all the teachers and have more opportunities to play multiple sports. In Coppell, you walk through school and not even know all of the kids in your own classes. And are pushed in one particular sport or club as a full time activity.
However, a school like Coppell has better test scores and teacher reports and 96 percent of students here attend college after high school, so it provides a better learning opportunity for students to better prepare for life after high school and to prepare them for a career in a field of their interest.
For being a junior in high school, it is difficult to move from one school to another. Especially when you have a drastic change from a smaller school to Coppell High School. Being a junior most kids already have their friend groups and have known each other for a long time so it takes time to make friends. It is also hard because there are so many kids in the school ,you may make a friend but not see them around school for a couple days because the school is so big.
However, I look forward to the opportunities to come. Although there are differences between CHS and my old school I gladly embrace the pros Coppell has to offer.
