Over winter break the Coppell Cowboys basketball team battled hard in a tournament in Corpus Christi. In which the Cowboys lost in the finals 67-78 to Corpus Christi Carroll. After placing second in the tournament, the Cowboys came home and earned a win with a score of 60-40 against L.D. Bell on Saturday.

Coppell is ready to take on their rivals, the Southlake Carroll Dragons, tonight at 8 p.m. at Southlake Carroll High school.

Sophomore captain Sam Marshall and senior captain Alex Nicoll have led the team in points scored and are expected to continue to do so tonight. According to Dallas Morning News, Marshall has scored 139 points this season, averaging 10.7 points per game. Nicoll has scored 56 points this season, averaging 4.7 per game.

The overall record for Southlake according to maxpreps.com is 29-30. With a strong defense, low foul count and high scoring hopefully the Cowboys can tie this record.

The Cowboys are 1-0 in district while tonight is the first district game for the Dragons. However, they have an overall record of 8-8 this season.

“They are a very good shooting team so they play fast,” coach Kit Pehl said. “To prepare for this game we want to slow this down and we want to make sure that we can test their shooter since they have 4.”
