Last Friday, students, parents and grandparents picked up their bingo cards and filled the CHS cafeteria in hope of winning big money at the annual Cheer Bingo Night.

The event lasted from 6-9:30 p.m. offering attendees ten games of bingo, raffle prizes, iFratelli pizza, drinks and cookies.

Parents of the cheerleaders helped prepare for bingo night by setting up tables for bingo card distribution, as well as placing red and black balloons and crayons at every table.

“Setting up for bingo isn’t too big of a hassle for the cheerleaders because most of the parents from the booster club come set up the bingo board and raffle prizes before we get there,” Varsity cheer captain Tori Zettle said. “We arrive about an hour before it starts and get assigned different jobs such as greeters, food runners, or cookie sellers.”

For freshman cheerleader Avery Zaves, this year was her first year to work Cheer Bingo.

“It was really cool to be a part of Cheer Bingo this year because I have been coming for years now and it was exciting to watch my friends and family play,” Zaves said. “It was also fun learning from the older cheerleaders who already know how everything works.”

Cheer Bingo is a way for the cheerleaders to raise money for their booster club in order to pay for cheerleading competitions.

“I think Cheer Bingo is a great event for families and the community to come together to have fun while helping the cheerleaders raise money,” Varsity junior cheerleader Ariel Pritchard said.

Each bingo card included three boards per each of the ten rounds, giving players 30 chances to win. Bingo patterns included the traditional one-row, and the cheerleaders spiced the bingo up asking for letters “C,” “H,” and “S” to win.

Between games of bingo, each of the three cheer squads (freshman, junior varsity, and varsity) introduced themselves to the crowd and performed a short cheer.

Most attendees played with only one card, but some had many.

“My parents and brother were not able to make it to Cheer Bingo so I ended up with four separate bingo games,” said junior attendee  Tristan Maher. “It was a lot harder than I thought it would be keeping up with marking called numbers.”

As the night went on, cash prizes increased in value. Players had the chance to win $200.00. You could feel the anticipation in the air as everyone awaited for a lucky players to shout “BINGO!”.

All in all the night was a success. Returning cheerleaders look forward to hosting Cheer Bingo as regular attendees build up luck and hope to win a game next year.
