Hallam shares goals as enterprise editor

Enterprise Editor

When I opened my letter and found out I was the executive enterprise editor for The Sidekick the first thing I did was squeal in excitement despite being surrounded by the hundreds of students in passing period. This was my dream position.

In fact, I already had my editor’s lesson planned in my head enterprise, not because I was just that certain I would get it but because investigative reporting really and truly is something I love.

As enterprise editor it will be my job to oversee front page, center spread stories and investigative in-depth stories. I will be helping students reach their full potential as reporters.photo-7

My investigative career truly began with a story on fake IDs. It was the first time I really saw that I could use my journalism skills to challenge the things around me. I took my reporting skills outside of the classroom and outside of the school to reach a whole new level of media.

From then on I continued to search for things I wanted to share like the truth about cheating at Coppell High School, the passion of the members of the Gay-Straight Alliance and even the reality of homelessness in Dallas.

Through these stories I learned that when I have my press pass on, it is my job to report the truth and most importantly that I have the ability to do so although I am in high school.

Being on The Sidekick has been a valuable opportunity and I hope to see it play a bigger role in campus news.

Next year I hope to write more stories that will enlighten and uplift the Coppell community but I am especially looking forward to helping other students gain the confidence and capability to investigate the issues they are truly passionate about.

I will also be managing the multimedia and KCBY partnership our staff has. I am looking forward to teaming up with KCBY especially since video editing and media has been one of my more secret passions. In eighth grade when I was an anchor for my school’s multimedia program it had always been my dream to be on KCBY before I transferred to a different school district.

However, after taking journalism my sophomore year at CHS, I realized I wanted to write.

I believe this partnership will greatly enhance Coppell Student Media and viewers should expect to see many more multimedia components which will be more interactive and capture the moments the story below it explains.

I am looking forward to a great year, website and newspaper and could not be more grateful to have been named the executive enterprise editor for the 2014-15 staff.
