Tonight the Coppell Cowgirls soccer team fought a tough battle against the Hebron Hawks.
Beginning the night with high hopes and determination to outplay the team they had anticipated to be very skilled, the Cowgirls started off the first half with a clean goal from junior forward Sarah King. King set the tone for the night by performing aggressively and moving quickly to every ball.
However, despite the great start, the Hawks came back just before half time to score a goal on junior goal keeper Rachel Johnson. Johnson deflected the first ball only to have another Hawk kick it into the goal immediately after. Both teams entered half time with a tie.
In the second half, the Cowgirls continued to play with just as much speed and aggression as they had in the first half which made it difficult for the Hawks to keep up. With just 11 minutes left in the second half, King scored yet another clean goal making the score 2-1 with the Cowgirls in the lead.
It wasn’t until about 20 seconds left in the game that things took a quick turn. The Hawks were able to get passed Coppell’s defense at the very end of the game and score another goal, ending the game with a tie of 2-2.
The Cowgirls were shocked with the outcome of the game, considering there was so little time left when the final goal was scored. However, they are using their frustration as a reason to come back out stronger next week against Flower Mound High School on Tuesday night.
