For the past week, the Conceptual Physics classes have been constructing rockets as they begin their unit in applying basic rocketry principles with Newton’s Laws. The students were able to launch their creations today.
Students were given a rocket kit as well as glue and tape to assemble their rockets. The rockets were roughly one foot long. Some classes also experimented to see if the weight of the rocket would affect the launch height by adding a certain amount of sand inside the rocket.
After building the rockets and going over safety precautions, students were ready to launch their rockets. However, many were not expecting for them to go as high as they did. Some of the rockets went as high as an estimated 71 feet in the air.
Classes will analyze the data they collected today in the upcoming days and begin to learn about momentum, thrust and orbital motion.
