After Facebook, GifBoom, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram became popular among Coppell High School students, the number of students using the programs exploded. In what seems like overnight, Snapchat, a new social media app, has captured the attention of iPhone users alike.

Snapchat is an iPhone application for picture messaging in a fun, youthful interface. The company claims that the application can send photos via the application, using wifi, up to 10 times as quickly as standard MMS messaging.

With Snapchat, users can send photos with messages to any other users of the account. A cellular number is not required, as users must register with Snapchat upon downloading. Snapchat gives users a variety of privileges, such as controlling when the photo is automatically deleted from the recipients phone. This gives users more control on what the recipient does with a photo. Snapchat also notifies the sender when and if the recipient takes a screenshot of the image.

Popularity of the App at Coppell High School has skyrocketed in the last week. Sites like Twitter are bubbling with messages like “Snap Chat me!”  Junior Rachel Boaz has recently become a Snapchat user.

“Snapchat is super fun to send funny pictures to my friends” Boaz said. “Snapchat is a lot more personal because of the pictures and it is fun to see who you are talking too. I do not need to use it, it is just a fun way to stay connected.”
