Retirement home in Arlington severely damaged by storms

By Jordan Thompson
Staff Writer

The Green Oaks Nursing Home in Arlington suffered serious damage from the storms that hit Tuesday, causing students in Coppell to duck and cover. The home’s rehabilitation wing lost most of its roof and many of its walls were in crumbles. According to the Arlington fire department, only two people suffered minor injuries of 130 residents. Thirty-five residents were moved to other nursing homes because of the damage. Assistant Arlington Fire Chief Jim Self said that the two injured persons were transported to hospitals, while the others were being moved to other area nursing homes. He said he knew of no other injuries in the city.
Two tornadoes apparently hit the city with damage ranging from downed power lines and tree limbs to homes destroyed.
