During breakfast at the Coppell High School C-Store, members of the Coppell ISD School Health Advisory Council approached students and staff in banana costumes on April 21. These yellow figures were at every CISD campus, handing out banana-themed breakfast parfaits to promote healthy eating.
Every Kid Healthy Week takes place annually the last full week of April where SHAC educates students on healthy habits. The events that were hosted contained themed days such as, Mindfulness Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Wellness Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday and Family Friday.
“One of the things we did this week was thoughtful Thursday, which is about risk reduction,” SHAC member Wednesday Foster said. “Kids who were caught wearing a helmet and obeying traffic safety laws got a coupon to Andy’s Frozen Custard.”
SHAC committee members implemented creative ways to spread healthy habits throughout the district using a week’s worth of daily activities.
“We have put together this initiative for every kid healthy week, yesterday was Mindful Monday, today’s Tasty Tuesday. We don’t typically get bananas all the time, so we did yogurt banana splits for all of our campuses,” SHAC member Haley Tobias said.
Alongside student directed activities, SHAC ended EKHW by hosting a Family Movie Night at CHS Arena with a free screening of Inside Out 2 on Friday.
“Seeing the different teams coming together for all the different days, and just watching their fun ideas blossom,” SHAC member Rebekah Zonozy said. “Tonight we ideally get a great turnout for being able to offer this fun district wide movie night.”
