On Wednesday, the Coppell Future Oriented Approach to Residential Development (FOARD) Task Force met at Coppell Town Center to discuss ways to bring the community together through social networking and entered planning stages for previously discussed topics.
Over the past years there have been initiatives such as Coppell Connects, which includes the annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors event to assist residents with home maintenance through skilled volunteers. Additionally, One Coppell has ongoing month to month programs to build a connected community.
The City of Coppell will be hosting the 5th Annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors on April 25. The task force discussed combining or separating campaigns.
“We wanted to create an umbrella marketing campaign that has all different things underneath and felt a Public Service Announcement would be one of the first to kick it off,” FOARD liaison Mindi Hurley said.
Tactics discussed to reach the community included TikTok style videos, vignettes, livestreams and animation.
“Everybody knows that social media is one of the most effective ways to reach a wide variety of the community, both young and senior residents,” Hurley said.
FOARD vice chair Yvonne Silva suggested creating a theme song for the campaign. The song brought to the table was “Would You Be Mine?” from the 2019 film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood sung in character by Tom Hanks as Mr. Rogers.
Incorporating Coppell High School’s media and marketing classes were also discussed as options.
The task force is currently in the beautification phase to protect existing neighborhoods by implementing Coffee Chats and Tree Planting Program.
All plans started during the FOARD meetings will later be taken to the city council.
The FOARD Task Force focuses on the future of the community from a residential housing point of view. In order to help residents they also need to understand their needs.
“FOARD is more physical changes, but you have to have the personal connection to do the physical,” Hurley said.
The next FOARD meeting is April 8 at 6:30 p.m.
