As the temperatures dropped the last few weeks, Coppell Ninth Grade Campus HOSA officers president Sathvika Mohanasundar, secretary Riya George and historian Maria Sharif found the perfect way to combine warmth, community and charity through a hot cocoa drive.
“I felt that hot cocoa would be comforting and appealing to students, making them want to participate and donate money for a good cause,” Sharif said.
During lunch on Feb 11, freshmen were able to stop by the team’s table and purchase a cup of hot cocoa for just $1, with the option to give additional donations. The low price and inviting atmosphere encouraged participants across campus.
“Students have responded really positively,” Mohanasundar said. “They think it’s a great deal for the price.”
The team has raised around $50-$60 in three days, with hopes of reaching $100 or more while continuing its fundraiser for the coming weeks.
“My hope for this fundraiser is to raise enough money to make even a small impact on the impoverished,” George said.
Behind the scenes, the success of the drive has been a full team effort. During Flex Time, CHS9 HOSA members worked together to make posters promoting the fundraiser throughout the school.
In addition, members spread the word by sharing flyers on their social media accounts.
“We offered two HOSA points per social media post, so more people can be reminded to bring their money and buy hot chocolate,” George said.
All proceeds from the hot cocoa drive are to Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), an organization providing food to children in need.
“I’ve volunteered there before, and I believe that donating to this organization will really help make a difference in feeding many kids,” Mohanasundar said.
The goal extends beyond fundraising. HOSA members hope to raise awareness throughout the Coppell community and inspire others to give back.
“It’s about making a difference for people around the world who don’t have all the things that we take for granted,” Sharif said.
What began as a small idea for HOSA turned into a meaningful project— one that not only warms cold hands but touches warm hearts.
