Serving the community is of utmost importance to the Coppell Future Oriented Approach to Residential Development Task Force. On Wednesday, FOARD met in City Hall to further discuss plans for community engagement, including a public service announcement video and housing survey.

Prior to discussing the PSA and housing survey, members focused on brainstorming ideas for a potential community fund because the city cannot use public funds for private home repairs or community beautification. They discussed the possibility of employing volunteers from the community as well.

A  goal of the task force this year is to inspire residents to take care of their homes but more importantly, help their neighbors and community. Members brainstormed ideas for a script for the PSA video, featuring task force members themselves. The PSA aims to be about bringing the community together while also launching connection opportunities such as coffee chats and tree planting programs.

“We are building the PSA as the first part in an overall marketing campaign,” liaison Mindi Hurley said. “It is more than just a PSA script; it is really a program campaign.”

Aside from the PSA, the task force also discussed sending out a housing survey within Coppell to get input from all demographics, including youth and first-time homebuyers and not just focus on the aging population.

“It is an aging city but what we are really trying to do is not let it become the pattern,” vice chair Yvonne Silva said, “Stay ahead of it and take care of it so it remains the community that we had wanted when everyone first moved here.”

Looking to their next meeting on March 11, members decided to return with refined ideas for the PSA script as well as further investigating the housing survey with a consultant in order to continue their mission of inspiring the community to rally together.

“Own your city. Take care of your city. Reach out and reach in,” Silva said.
