The CHS9 theater department showcases “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” by Mandy Conner as a part of “A Night of One Act Plays.”

Five Greek children stranded on an abandoned island find themselves receiving a quest that could help them find their escape. However, as prophecies are told and trials are passed, they all might not be able to find their way back after all.

This year, the freshman production company is performing alongside JV One-Act Play on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Coppell High School Auditorium.

“We’ve been doing trial runs for this for almost the past four years at this point. It was cool to legitimately get to have a true competition and festival with multiple schools, multiple shows, and to get to put that on,” CHS9 theater director Colin Thomas said.

Competition approval came rather abruptly, meaning students had to deal with a quick turnaround filled with endless practices and rehearsals. “Where the Sky Meets the Sea” cast members fulfilled their roles with hard work and persistence.

”We had to constantly be adapting and finding different places to rehearse,” Thomas said. “I always commend them for the preparation on the student’s end, and how much I appreciate them just being able to adapt so quick after the approval process”

Freshman Eesha Tiwari plays supporting character Luca.

“He’s very shy and reserved, and he has a bit of a stutter. He’s always looking up at the sky or looking at the sea,” Tiwari said. “I myself have watched people stutter and then try to replicate it myself.”

Rehearsals and preparation can seem tedious, Tiwari said, but they also give her joy.

“Its just so much fun to be around your friends and working on this amazing thing together and it’s just a lot of fun,” Tiwari said. “You create a lot of memories.”
