The sun has just risen, lighting up the already warm atmosphere in the Coppell High School Library. The sound of laughter and the smell of food fill the air, along with a single phrase.
“Thank you for your service.”
On Monday at 8 a.m., CHS Student Council hosted its Veterans Day Ceremony. Occurring every year on Nov. 11, Veterans Day is a day to honor soldiers who served in the military and put their lives at risk for their country.
While Veterans Day is celebrated across the United States, the celebration at CHS brought together local veterans and their families, fostering a sense of community at a smaller scale.

“I like the ambience and community, and the respect and love,” veteran family member Griffin Cadigan said. “To me, this celebration means honoring those who are with us and those who have parted.”
Cadigan, among many others at the celebration, expressed gratitude for a family member who served. The appreciation for local veterans connected members of Coppell’s diverse community to honor their sacrifice.
“It’s nice to be recognized and see the community together,” veteran Seiji Hayashi said.
The celebration allowed the community to collectively express its gratitude for the bravery of our veterans, who protect our citizens’ safety and security.
At the event, Principal Laura Springer addressed veterans and their family members. Springer highlighted that our freedom is not to be taken for granted, and expressed her gratitude to the veterans at the event.
“We only see the freedom,” Springer said. “We don’t see what cost that freedom.”
