On Oct. 7, the City of Coppell celebrated its annual National Night Out through organized community block parties supporting the Coppell Police Department. 

Last year, Coppell was recorded to have one of the lowest crime rates in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Ranked as the fifth best place to live in 2025. Coppell Police Chief Danny Barton thinks community bonds contribute to the safety and ranking.

“Our citizens have an interest in their own safety and part of that safety is getting to know each other,” Barton said.

Coppell Safety Cadets, a program dedicated to help educate students who want to pursue law enforcement careers in the future, aided police officers with ride outs for block parties later in the evening at the police station.

“Our goal is basically a program for teenagers to get involved in the community and learn about careers in law enforcement,” Coppell High School sophomore Gargi Thakur said. 

At 6 p.m., Coppell police officers began their ride outs to meet with civilians.

Locations, such as GracePoint Church, hosted a block party with civilians attending from all areas of Coppell. One of those groups being the Coppell Life Safety Park, which is managed by the Coppell Fire Department.

“We appreciate being able to come out and support the community that supports us so much,” Life Safety Park Manager Bethany Everett said.

City staff were also present at GracePoint Church’s block party, setting up the event and educating community members on festivities. 

“Chief Barton has a philosophy that communities keep communities safe. Because we have such a great community, that’s how our police officers are able to partner and also keep the community safe,” chief of strategic relationships Calie Willis said.
