Students donate turkeys, help community

Julia Kim

Staff Writer

On Fri., Nov. 19, Coppell will host its 8th annual Kids 4 Turkeys drive from 7 to 9 a.m. There are three ways to donate this year; students, parents and community members can donate by dropping off a frozen turkey in the morning at Town Hall and any elementary, middle and high school, contributing online or texting a turkey to make a $10 donation. To donate using this last option, individuals can text NTFB to 85944 on Nov. 18 and 19.

These frozen turkeys will benefit the North Texas Food Bank, a non-profit organization that distributes turkeys to its 260 member agencies.

Kids 4 Turkeys was started by Cottonwood Creek Elementary P.E. teacher Tammy Gilstrap. Last year, a total of 3,052 frozen turkeys were donated at the campuses and an additional 110 were donated online. Coppell High School, alone, donated 415 turkeys.
