Some people join a newsroom, some people shape it. The Sidekick’s staff writer Deepali Kanchanavally did both.
From the moment she stepped into The Sidekick as a sophomore, it was clear she had something special — creativity, drive and the ability to bring ideas to life.
Deepali joined The Sidekick as a sophomore but had to wait until her senior year to rejoin. Although her time on staff was not constant, her impact never faded. She returned to The Sidekick in the 2024-25 school year with the same spark, ready to create and contribute.
Deepali’s stories are those that need to be written about. She takes important, impactful events and shares them with the community. She shines a light on issues that might have otherwise been overlooked; you can see it in her work.
Deepali has always been the one to go above and beyond. Always available for her fellow staffers, whether for brainstorming or last-minute coverage, she is someone you can count on. Her dependability makes her a shining star within the program.
Deepali’s work has not been limited to just writing despite her title. She creates powerful pieces of art and captivating social media coverage. Whether she is brainstorming creative headlines, diving deep into a story or helping a fellow staffer with their work, Deepali brought an intentional energy to everything she produced.
As she turns the page to her next chapter, we already feel the void she will leave behind. Thank you, Deepali, for showing us that passion does not have to be loud, just powerful.
I will miss you, but I am so excited to see what story you write for yourself next.
