In order to honor veterans for Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11, Coppell High School has promoted the “Write A Letter to A Hero” for the entirety of the week from November 8 to November 12.
Students have the opportunity to write a letter to be delivered to soldiers or those serving the United States overseas to thank them for all that they have done. To honor the day, the school broadcasted a rendition of “Taps” on the intercom during the announcements and choir groups travelled to Austin Elementary to sing the National Anthem.
“Veterans Day is an important holiday that a lot of us just brush aside,” senior Jeanne Feng. “Many people forget the sacrifices that soldiers make to save us, and it’s important to at least devote this one day – if not more – to honoring and respecting those who are currently in the army and those who have served in the past.”
But it does not appear as if students at CHS and members of the Coppell Community have forgotten about this important holiday. As part of the SPUR schedule for tomorrow, November 12, students will be participating in the Write A Letter to A Hero activity by writing one – or more – letters to soldiers overseas. Students have the opportunity to thank them for risking their life to ensure American safety, as well as provide any other information regarding the upcoming holidays they desire. In addition to this, American flags have been put up around numerous neighborhoods of Coppell to honor the day.
