SOUTHLAKE — Keller girls soccer midfielder Billie Davis hits one outside the box and it soars into the top left scoring with 30 minutes remaining in the first half.
Then, it was domination by the Cowgirls en route to a 4-1 victory over the Indians on Friday in the Class 6A Division Region I semifinals at Dragon Stadium.Coppell plays Flower Mound in the regional final at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Max Goldsmith Stadium in Lewisville.
“The leadership on this team and the resilience is something that experience gets you,” Coppell coach Craig Able said. “There’s a reason why these girls are respected and they play at a high level.”
The first goal for Coppell came off a set piece 35-yards out kicked by senior forward Monica Morales hitting the leg of senior forward Reagan Roberson going into the bottom right of the goal.
“Morales is a leader and a goal getter,” Coppell High School Principal Laura Springer said.
The second was off a beautiful assist by sophomore midfielder Adwitha Challa to junior forward and Rice commit Neerali Kapadia, who slotted it in the bottom left bringing the lead to 2-1 at halftime.
“Despite the early goal, we weren’t that worried,” Kapadia said. “We knew that if we stayed calm and focused we could score.”
With the second half producing two more goals, a header off a corner by Morales, and an individual run by Kapadia who put it in the top left box from 25 yards out, the Cowgirls’ domination was on display.
Now three wins from a state championship, the Cowgirls believe this is the year to win.
“Our goal the whole year has been simple,” Able said. “It’s to win state. To do that we have to be focused on just the next game.”
