In the bottom of the sixth inning, Coppell senior catcher Riley Warren and junior Madison Scott scored back-to-back runs, solidifying the softball team’s lead over Little Elm.
On Tuesday night, the Cowgirls defeated the Lobos, 9-5, earning them their first District 5-6A win of the season.
At the start of the sixth inning, consecutive runs by Little Elm catcher Kamden St.Cyr and center fielder Milan Washington, soon followed by a run from Little Elm pitcher Lainey St.Cyr narrowed Coppell’s lead to 6-3. However, the Cowgirls soon regained their momentum.
With a run by Warren in the first inning, the Cowgirls established their lead early. The Cowgirls lead the Lady Lobos for the entire game.
“Our pitcher Lily Bowen did a great job today, and our offense looked really good,” Warren said. “We did a good job showing up at the plate and stringing together hits.”

Senior second baseman Natalie Howell scored twice in the second and fourth innings.
The win signifies a point of motivation for the team.
“I think this game really proved what they can do as a team,” Coppell coach Emily Witt said. “We are in a really tough district, so hopefully it can show the team what they’re capable of.”
The team plans to sustain their momentum going forward.
“We’re excited and looking forward to playing Lewisville next,” Warren said. “We’re going to come off of this win and keep our energy up.”
Coppell plays at Lewisville on Friday.
