Coming off four consecutive losses, the Coppell volleyball team is looking to find its footing and stand tall in it.
The Cowgirls play Nolan Catholic on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the CHS Arena.
Coppell coach Robyn Ross said the Cowgirls often face a height disadvantage. Looking to combat this, the Cowgirls are focusing on solidifying their serves and defense.
“We want to be able to control the ball when it’s in our hands and then control it when it’s coming back to us,” Ross said.
Additionally, with a roster featuring mostly sophomores and juniors, the Cowgirls lack in experience compared to many of their opponents.
“Having ups and downs in the beginning of the season is to be expected because it’s their first time playing with the big kids,” Ross said. “What I care about is their growth and that they are making positive changes from match to match.”
Ross sees the remaining nondistrict matches as learning opportunities and ways to improve Coppell before district play.
“I want these girls to learn how to handle pressure before district starts because then stuff really starts to count and matter and I don’t want that to make them more anxious and afraid to make errors,” Ross said.
