Is Halloween a Dying Holiday?

 Laura Kattilakoski
Staff Writer

Looking around my neighborhood this week, I noticed there were not many houses lit by the usual pumpkins and blow-up ghosts. With only a week until Halloween, it seems like the decorations should be all set up.

Maybe as a high schooler I’m just noticing it more, but the number of trick-or-treaters seems to be dwindling.

Nobody take this the wrong way; Halloween is a fun holiday that may have important values to certain families. However, most kids are in it for the free candy. There is nothing wrong with that, but that may be a cause of the lack of parental support of the holiday.

On the other hand, stores have definitely not slowed down on the sales of Halloween decorations and candies. Almost all local stores, such as Tomb Thumb and Walgreens, have an array of Halloween themed snacks and decorations.

Specialty stores such as Party City have everything you could ever need for Halloween, including hundreds of costumes.
