Three games left, three opportunities. The Coppell boys basketball team has three games remaining in its regular season and two spots to move up to secure a playoff spot.
Today, the Cowboys host Plano at 7 p.m. at CHS Arena, Coppell’s final home game of the regular season. In District 6-6A, Coppell (15-15, 4-7) currently sits at sixth, the Wildcats (12-16, 2-9), trailing behind at seventh.
On Jan. 12, the Wildcats defeated Coppell 61-56. From the Wildcat’s roster, Coppell is preparing for senior UNT commit Tyran Mason, who has had multiple 30-plus point games so far this season.
The Cowboys recently fell to undefeated, No. 1 state-ranked Plano East, the loss motivating Coppell heading into its next game against the Wildcats.
“We gave up 77 points and that’s unacceptable,” Coppell senior forward Antonio Romo said. “It’s not what we strive for.”
According to Romo, the Cowboys have struggled this season to take early leads, taking about a 10-15 point deficit for the adrenaline to start kicking in for the team.
However, the Cowboys are shifting mindsets heading into tonight’s game, taking on a “short-term memory” and putting their recent loss behind them to shift gears toward Plano.
Tuesday’s game is also Senior Night for Coppell, as the Cowboys recognize more than half their roster.
