Coming off a 3-0 win against Keller Fossil Ridge, the Coppell volleyball team was on the opposite side of the storyline after Tuesday night’s match. Though all three sets were close (25-20, 28-26, 25-23), Grapevine swept the Cowgirls during Middle School night at the CHS Arena.

Being that this was the last match of the preseason, Coppell looks to improve from this match in time for district.

“We played hard, we just weren’t able to finish in those tight games,” Coppell senior middle blocker Peyton Minyard said. “Next game I’m looking for us to execute the ball more. We didn’t really do that often. With district coming up, I hope we pull it off by then.”

The coaches want to see more from a tactical perspective as well.

“Next game I’m wanting to see a more fierce attitude and being able to make adjustments on the fly,” Coppell assistant Katelyn Johnson said. “In the middle of a match, there are always going to be adjustments that need to be made, but we have to be able to execute our game plan every time we step out onto the court.”

Though unsatisfied with the result, the team is adamant that this game was not a predictor for future results.

“Of course we aren’t satisfied with the result because we hold ourselves to a higher standard,” Johnson said. “We’re still working, we have the pieces to make a great team, we just aren’t there just yet. We don’t feel like tonight is a true representation of what we’ve got.”

The preseason ended on a sour note for the Cowgirls, but the positives were gained through the preseason schedule.

“I don’t think we realized how much we needed to learn to work with each other,” senior libero Maci Watrous said. “This preseason helped grow closer as a team.”

Coppell opens District 6-6A play against Irving Nimitz on Friday at 6:30 p.m in the CHS Arena.
