This week, Coppell High School students and staff celebrated homecoming week with creative dress-up theme days.

Hawaiian shirts and leis were worn for  Maui Monday, followed by Twin Tuesday, Where to Wednesday, Jersey Thursday, and Spirit Friday. Students dress up like a friend, wear college or university attire, jerseys, and Coppell High School spirit wear, respectively.

These dress-up days were selected by Student Council members, based on the student opinions of what they would like to wear to school.

“The themes are representative to get kids involved, and get the homecoming spirit moving towards a more inclusive environment,” Student Council adviser Jonathan Denton said.

The Homecoming Court was also announced Monday afternoon.

The court was chosen by CHS students, who voted for for their classmates via a secure poll. The students with the most votes were then asked to confirm that they would like to be on the court, and from there Student Council finalized their decisions.

The students on the court are representative of their respective classes.  The court was recognized at this morning’s pep rally, and they will be acknowledged at halftime of tonight’s football game against Irving MacArthur.

The Homecoming Queen and King is voted for by the senior class, who will receive a form through their emails to vote for a pair to be chosen at the homecoming dance tomorrow. The pair with the most votes will be recognized at the dance at Irving Convention Center.

Student Council has sold more homecoming tickets than they did last year, and they hope to continue sales of tickets up till the dance on Saturday. As student engagement has been a primary focus of Student Council this year, they intend for this trend to continue to the homecoming dance.

“We want to make sure it’s the students leading homecoming, we’re listening to them for their wants and needs,” Denton said.

The homecoming dance will be held at the Irving Convention Center on Saturday night from 7-11 p.m.

Wednesday’s homecoming parade was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Homecoming Court results are as follows:

Freshman Duchess and Duke – Sawyer Strauss and Jake Roemer.
