For the past nine years, LaDanian Tomlinson has been the undeniable face of the San Diego Chargers. In 2010, the Bolts will have to find a new franchise player.
San Diego cut ties with the star running back earlier this week in a much expected move to slash payroll and move forward. While Tomlinson has not been the same back the past two years as he was in his prime, L.T. will immediately go down as arguably the best player to ever wear a San Diego uniform.
Tomlinson was drafted by the Chargers fifth overall out of TCU in the 2001 NFL Draft. From his rookie year through the 2008 NFL season, L.T. rushed for more than 1,000 yards and has scored double digit touchdowns in every year of his career.
Tomlinson has been a dynamic weapon for San Diego during his tenure there, making them one of the most feared offensive units in the league. He separated himself from the other backs in the league in 2006, when he scored 31 total touchdowns and rushed for 28, both NFL records.
The Chargers released Tomlinson after his least productive season to date, in which he rushed for a career low 730 yards. Despite this, L.T. will always be remembered by San Diego fans and will go down as one of the best running backs in history should he decide to retire. Tomlinson is still hoping to latch on to a new team, however, as he seems to believe adding a championship ring to his trophy case will complete his legacy.
