On Friday, Coppell was struck with its first taste of wintery weather since March 2015.

The brief snowfall, which Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport recorded at approximately one-tenth of an inch, was enough to cause several traffic incidences in the DFW area, including one just outside the parking lot of Coppell High School.

“My mom texted me and said I had to be careful driving home because there had already been a lot of accidents,” senior Rachel Kruse said. “After the intersection of Cowboy Drive and Parkway [Boulevard], there was a patch of ice that I saw. I was giving the car in front of me a lot of time, and the car in front of me bumped into the car in front of him.

“I got really freaked out because I was really close and I saw the patch of ice they had slid on, and so I put off my brakes so I wouldn’t slide on it. I braked harder and I stopped, and the car behind me didn’t have enough time to stop and bumped me in the back. I pulled into Town Hall, and there was no damage to my car, but I was still really freaked out. I didn’t think it was going to ice at all, but the conditions ended up being pretty bad just from a little bit of snow and the freezing weather.”

Friday also set the record for the coldest recorded high temperature for a Jan. 6 at 27 degrees. However, in true Texas fashion, temperatures are expected to spring to the 70s later this week.
