Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them captivates Harry Potter lovers
December 1, 2016
The lights dim, the familiar Harry Potter theme begins and the movie starts. From the first few seconds of the new addition to the Harry Potter film series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I was captivated.
The movie is written by Harry Potter book series author J.K. Rowling and directed by David Yates, who also directed the last four films.
The movie centers around Newt Scamander, an English wizard who stops at New York in 1926 to discover and document the magical creatures of the wizarding world. Newt gathers enough information to write a book about the creatures, which he calls Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
English actor Eddie Redmayne does a great job of portraying Newt as the quiet but eccentric magizoologist with a strong connection to the creatures. He expresses Newt’s love for the creatures and makes it real for the audience.
The visual and sound effects, such as rebuilding of structures, clothing changes and various spells, help to bring out the magic of the film and create nostalgia in the dedicated Harry Potter fanbase. The effects really help structure the film with the original. The teleportation effects in the film make me want to be a part of the wizarding universe.
Wardrobe is important in every film and, in this one, the clothes allow characters to stand out. All of the styles, such as the long coats, formal dresses and suits and short hats, add a touch of class to the characters and overall environment. While the clothing doesn’t entirely align with 1926 attire, the wardrobe is unique and brings the characters to life.
Overall, I love this movie and it has quickly become one of my favorites. This is a movie the entire family will enjoy.
This is the perfect addition to the original Harry Potter series and if you want to relive the magic of the movies, you will not be disappointed.
If you are looking for a movie full of magic, fantasy and excitement, this movie is right for you. You will fall in love with it.
