Each Christmas, we tend to hear the same Christmas songs over and over again. While these may be oldies but goodies, some may want something new. With tomorrow being Christmas Eve, I have chosen five songs that one doesn’t normally hear on the radio, but still has the same Christmas feeling to it.
“Cuddle Up” by Catey Shaw
This is a more modern pick, and sounds a lot like a pop song. The Christmas bells and lyrics stem thoughts (maybe even memories) of drinking hot cocoa, while cuddling up with someone next to a fire in celebration of the holidays. Whether you are with your family or your friends, this song gets you in the Christmas mood.
“Old Lang Syne” by Dan Fogelberg
Not as well known as his other songs, Fogelberg’s “Old Lang Syne” is a bittersweet song about the holidays. Two old flames run into each other on Christmas Eve and reminisce about their times together. What better way to enjoy Christmas than by listening to a not-so-famous crooner?
“Wonderful Christmastime” by The Shins
Although this song is popular, The Shins are one of my favorite bands. Its rendition, although not radically different, gives its own spin to it. This song is definitely worth a listen, especially if the original is becoming too trying on your ears.
“A Great Big Sled” by The Killers
The Killers are known for producing Christmas music that is a little quirky. I tried to find the most “normal” one, and found this song. Filled with The Killers trademark rock sound and Brandon Flower’s melodious voice, but combined with a Christmas spin, “A Great Big Sled” is perfect for anyone searching for some new Christmas music.
“Christmas” by The Who
Finally, my last pick may be a little more well known but is not considered the quintessential Christmas song. This may be because the song contains political messages, and messages about Christmas itself. Although quite cynical about the holiday, the song does have a Christmas tune to it. But beware, it is not for your average Christmas party.
