With Winter Break less than 48 hours away, many students will be left with an overabundance of free time. There is no better time to curl up on your couch with some hot chocolate, and indulge on a season or two of a television show on Netflix.

Here are the five best series to watch on Netflix according to students at Coppell High School.

1. “Friends”

Number of seasons: 10

Rating: TV-14

“Friends” is a sitcom airing  from 1994 to 2004. It has relatable and lovable characters, its popularity lastly beyond the 11 years it aired. The show is about six friends in their 20s living in Manhattan; each episode features their comedic, and sometimes romantic, adventures.

“[Friends] is a really funny show that makes everyone happy and makes them laugh,” Coppell High School junior Miranda Dickson said. “It helps you forget all of the stress in your life because you focus on [the character’s] lives instead of your own. Whenever I want to lighten my mood I watch ‘Friends’.”

2. “Grey’s Anatomy”

Number of seasons: 12 (11 on Netflix)

Rating: TV-14

“Grey’s Anatomy” is the only series on this list that is currently still on television. Having two weeks off of school will give you time to begin catching up to its current season. “Grey’s Anatomy” is a medical drama centered on Dr. Meredith Grey and her fellow surgeons at a Seattle Hospital who “deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis – it’s in one another that they find comfort, friendship and, at times, more than friendship. Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey (abc.go.com).” When watching Grey’s Anatomy, prepare yourself for laughter as well as tears.

3. “The Office”

Number of seasons: 9

Rating: TV-PG

“The Office” is “a hilarious documentary-style look at the humorous, and sometimes poignant, foolishness that plagues the 9-to-5 world (nbc.com).” The show follows the employees “at Dunder Mifflin, a paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania,” as they experience their everyday life. As the seasons progress, you will see the characters grow and change, however, the jokes and laughter will remain consistent.

4. “How I Met Your Mother”

Number of seasons: 9

Rating: TV-14

“How I Met Your Mother” is a comedy combined with romance that tells the story of “a father [recounting] to is children, through a series of flashbacks, the journey he and his four best friends took leading up to him meeting their mother (imbd.com).” With a series finale that caused mixed reactions, “How I Met Your Mother” will draw you into the complex, and sometimes unexpected story.

“I love all of the adventures [that the characters] go on as friends and [‘How I Met Your Mother’] just never fails to make me laugh in every single episode,” CHS junior Allison Davis said. “But even mixed in with the comedy there was a really true and amazing plot line that you just have to figure out what happens.”

5. “Jessica Jones”

Number of seasons: 1

Rating: TV-MA
“Jessica Jones” is a Netflix original series that premiered on Netflix Nov 20. Based on the Marvel Comics character, the series focuses on Jessica Jones who “uses her gifts as a private eye to find her tormentor before he can harm anyone else in Hell’s Kitchen (netflix.com).” Using her abilities of flight and superhuman strength, Jones opens her own detective agency and deals with cases surrounding other remarkable people in New York City. This action packed series will leave you wanting for another season in addition to the single season on Netflix.
