On a rainy Saturday after much delay, the citizens of Coppell were relieved to find that the Coppell Arts Festival was happening that afternoon. Although there was a mild drizzle, many people still faithfully attended and brought their kids.

This event was intended to happen from 8 a.m. to 12p.m. on Oct. 24  but instead was postponed to 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 31, Halloween.

Upon arrival, The Coppell Conservatory of Music was showing off its violinists, guitarists and pianists. Coppell High School senior Chaitanya Srinivasan was the second to last to perform. Srinivasan consistently performs and practices in an indoor setting typically with a studio piano and a quiet environment, not in an outdoor noisy environment as this one.

“It feels really different and it’s a new experience,” Srinivasan said. “It’s always good to try out new things to see where your passion can take you.”

Author of “Legendary Locals of Coppell” and loyal Coppell resident Shaun Jex, arrives to talk about how his book documents both the various significant historical people as well as the current individuals well-known nationally from Coppell. Recording events from as early as John and Sarah Stringfellow, the founders of Coppell’s oldest church, to Todd and Tara Storch, parents who transformed the pain of the daughter’s death into a life-giving charity, “Taylor’s Gift.”

Jex is also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Coppell and an active member in the Coppell Historical Society. Jex’s book is set to be released on Nov. 23. and will be available in local bookstores all around the country.
