“A lunch is ridiculously large,” a student says. “My first period is Spanish again,” another one complains.
These phrases will soon become commonplace this year as Coppell High School students get back into the swing of things. Although walking through the halls of CHS may either excite or sicken students, music can be a common factor among everyone since each and every student enjoys some kind of music. I have created a back-to-school playlist that will get students in the mood to hunker down and get to work.
“Whistle (While You Work It)” by Katy Tiz
I can think of no other song that would describe my attitude this year. If your first week was as hard and stressful as mine was, then this song is a foolproof way to get you working and enjoying it too.
“Beat of My Drum” by Powers
With an irresistible beat, this song manages to bring back summer memories. Although the school year has already started, it is always a useful tactic to remind yourself of what you have waiting for you at the end of this year. Listen to this song if you need a quick reminder before going to school or if you’re leaving school, and anytime you need a mood booster.
“I Don’t Like It, I Love It” by Flo Rida feat. Robin Thicke and Verdine White
Much like “Whistle (While You Work It),” this song has an upbeat vibe to it that will leave you ready to finish any job you have underway. Listen to this song after a long homework session, and it will not feel impossible heading back to the books.
“Ready” by Kodaline
Kodaline always manages to put me into an emotional mood with its deep lyrics and sad tunes. However, this song proves to be different from the pack in that it is a great song to listen to when you have to start your homework. You may not be ready at first, but this song will change that quickly.
“Wild Wild Life” by The Talking Heads
Although most students will not recognize this song instantly, it is worth a listen. The Talking Heads are one of my favorite bands and this song reminds me to not take life too seriously. Although this school year is one of the most important in my life (junior year), it is a good idea to remember that for any student, this life is a wild one and we should enjoy it.
