Alexander’s final set; the best albums

As this is my last post on Coppell Student Media, I shall leave you all with a list of my favorite albums. There will only be one topic where I agree with Taylor Swift as we both think albums are indeed art. I listen to a lot of music, but I have condensed my ears’ pleasures to six albums. These six albums I can listen to all the way through without wanting to hit the skip button. (These are not in any particular order. * indicates album has explicit content)

Frank Ocean/Channel Orange*
Not rap, not pop, but something much sweeter. Frank Ocean’s only available album is Channel Orange, which came out in 2012. Out of all of the artists I listen to, I have been most anxiously waiting to hear new material from him. That in no way means I am tired of listening to “Pyramids” or “Pink Matter”. Not even the overplay of “Thinkin Bout You” can take the magic out of it. The whole album is a vibe in itself, from “Start” to “End”.

Maroon 5/Songs About Jane
I was 6 when this album came out and I have not stopped listening to it. Undeniably the best music Maroon 5 has made in its whole career. The band could have stopped its career here and still have been on top just because this album’s fresh sound is appealing still to this day. Sadly, the band has seemed to sell out to the new sound and ways of the Billboard Top 40 chart.

Led Zeppelin/Houses of the Holy
I might not have been alive when this album came out, but Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock bands of all time and one of the bands that made me who I am today. The album goes from soft with “The Rain Song”, to steady rock with “Dancing Days” and then to distorted keys in “No Quarter”. It is difficult to pick between this album and Led Zeppelin II. Houses of the Holy concludes with my favorite song by the band, “The Ocean”. If you have never heard of this band, go ask your parents; your dad probably still has it on vinyl in the attic.

Coldplay/A Rush of Blood to the Head
Another British band, another hard decision. I am convinced that if you don’t like Coldplay you are probably an emotionless human being, but hey, that is just my opinion. Every song pokes at my heart in one way or another. Listening to Coldplay, especially this album, is like letting a close friend in your sad space and they are just hugging you with song lyrics, consoling you by their presence. No matter what emotion you are feeling, there is a Coldplay song to accompany it. I wish I could put the first three albums in here as one, but I cannot.

Ed Sheeran/+
I listened to this album for a straight six plus months, from its release in June of 2012 to the ringing in of 2013. This album not only holds great memories for me, it carries amazing lyrics. Sheeran’s figurative ways of writing just makes you want to listen to more. His newest album X is not bad, but + will always be the Ed albums for me.

The Neighbourhood/I Love You.*
My sophomore year I found The Neighbourhood after seeing a cute senior guy with killer music taste tweet about them. I Love You. from The Neighbourhood was one of the staples of the soundtrack to my summer of 2014. Both times I saw them last year, my voice was gone the day after from screaming along to each lyric. I do not care what anyone else says, “Sweater Weather” is a timeless classic that I will continue to sing along to loudly with the windows down no matter what season. I guess all I really can say about The Neighbourhood is that they are indeed “Flawless”.
