During the week of Dec. 14 to Dec. 18, Coppell High School’s Invisible Children and TOMS club sponsored an awareness week for the children who need help in Uganda.
“Our goal was to get students to ask [Invisible Children and TOMS members] more about the clubs and find out what our purposes are,” junior Lily Choi said.
The war in Uganda is in the longest Africa has ever seen. The members want to inform CHS students about the clubs and start getting them involved in helping. Each day was something different to get CHS aware.
“X marks the spot-see the invisible” For Monday Dec. 14, students were told to take red duct tape and put an X on their clothing to represent the abducted children in Uganda.
“Whose Shoes? TOMS Shoes!” Tuesday Dec. 15, all students were asked to wear their TOMS shoes. TOMS is a shoe company that promises for each pair bought they will send another to a child in Africa who is not fortunate enough to buy anything to protect their feet.
“Be a Superhero-save the children” On the third day, Wednesday Dec. 16, CHS students could dress up like a super hero to represent how everyone can help the Ugandan children through the rough times of the war.
“Camo Day-fight for the children” On Thursday Dec. 17, students dressed in camouflage to show how they are against the Lord’s Resistance Army and want to help the Ugandans end this war.
“Invisible Children Unite” On the last day of awareness week, Friday Dec. 18, students were told to wear their Invisible Children and TOMS merchandise so others can be motivated to join the cause and help.
“We really wanted to motivate people to help out more when we have fundraisers and get involved with the problems going on in Uganda,” junior Janice Kim said.
