By Summer Crawford
News Editor
Somewhere along the way in middle school, I found what I was passionate about: writing. What sparked my interest and revealed the writer inside of me was my first creative writing assignment, and from then on I was confident about at least one of my abilities.
Joining The Sidekick junior year, I could never imagine I would be filling in the news editor shoes, but I am so grateful for this opportunity. Sitting in D115 everyday for the past two years has been like watching my favorite re-runs of a show: I learn something new everyday, and The Sidekick never fails to positively surprise me.
Interacting and conversing with sophomores, juniors and seniors about what it means to be a true journalist has kept my passion alive.
So, as the year is over, and summer is a long stretch in front of us, I want to welcome every new staff member, whether you are a writer, photographer, business member, media member, or a little bit of everything. I was once new to the staff too, but being a staff writer my junior year has taught me a lot about expressing emotions through writing, making lasting friendships and much more.
I am looking forward to being your news editor for the 2014-15 school year, and I am eager to create a new family that we can all belong to. News stories and news reporting is about keeping the community of Coppell in touch with current events and information. As the news editor, I will be in charge of scheduling things such as Coppell ISD board meetings, and while this may not seem interesting to cover, you may find that this improves your reporting skills through talking to officials and may even land you internships.
I am also extremely pumped to be in charge of the news section of The Sidekick, and I like to imagine myself as your personal organizer. I love to schedule things and keep things orderly and on time, so hopefully I can utilize this to have constant, clear communication with staff members regarding the news in Coppell, and produce quality news pieces.
You can expect to have an online and print news section full to the brim with interesting, juicy stories. Let us help make Coppell Student Media the place to go for Coppell High School and the Coppell community, to find updates and read about breaking news. With the arrival of the 2014-15 school year, Chase Wofford will have been The Sidekick’s advisor for 10 years. I know this new staff will make his milestone enjoyable, and I know we are destined to be great.
So everyone get ready to get to the grind, find inspiration and hopefully laugh a lot along the way. I can not wait to begin again, another year of success and dedication, all the while amongst honest and great friends. Welcome all!
