In a matchup of two Top 15 nationally ranked programs and bitter District 5-5A rivals, the Coppell Cowgirls started the second round of district play against the Hebron Hawks for the second time in district play in a match that proved to be Coppell’s biggest challenge so far this season.

The Cowgirls won 3-1 in for games, 25-19, losing 25-16, then winning 25-21 and 25-20

The Cowgirls came into the game with a record of 35-3 for the season.  They played the Hawks in the first game of district in a match that was strikingly similar to the match last night.

The opening game was hard fought and the teams were level for much of it until the Cowgirls superior skills shone through as they pulled away to win 25-19.

“It was a hard game.” Said senior Kate Dicken.  “We all played well and we came away with a big win.”

The second game was the most challenging for Coppell as the Hebron girls rallied with the help of a loud student section that had formed throughout the first game.  Coppell got off to a rocky start and struggled to get back into the game eventually losing, 25-16.

The Coppell student section was determined to out yell the Lady Hawks and chants and cheers were heard throughout the third game.  With the help of the loud student section, the exciting cheerleaders and the plethora of parents and teachers that came to support the team, the Cowgirls were back on to claim a 25-21 victory.

The supporters kept the mood alive and the Cowgirls closed out the final game with a 25-20 win.

Freshman Lauren Lee played her first match for the varsity team on Tuesday.

“I got to experience something tonight that changed my life,” Lee said. “Thank you to these girls.”

Coppell will fight to continue its undefeated district record this Friday against Flower Mound at flower mound high school.
