Today students in Ms. Binder’s Earth & Space Science (E.S.S.) classes will be trying unique foods new to most; foods certified vegan or produced by students following vegan recipes.
Last week and at the beginning of this week, Ms. Binder’s students watched “No Impact Man,” and another documentary on becoming vegan, that both addressed the huge amounts of green house gas released by the raising of cattle for the meat industry.
Thursday through Sunday of last week, students participated in the “no impact challenge,” in which they came up with three ways of lessening their impact on the environment, and kept a journal documenting their experience.
Students were instructed to buy or create vegan snacks and desserts for today’s vegan party that Ms. Binder hopes will introduce students to foods they haven’t had before that have a smaller footprint on the environment than products created with meat or animal byproduct.
