After many months of hard work and practicing, 19 Coppell High School students have headed to Corpus Christi, TX to compete in the state level of competition for DECA, an international student marketing organization.
The district level of competition occurred in early this month in Frisco. This year proved to be more challenging than past years as new testing requirements were implemented. However, CHS students continued to excel and advance to the next level. Over 11,000 students are members of Texas DECA and will compete with the Coppell participants.
“DECA prepares me for my future,” Junior and two-year competitor Sydney Owens said. “I am in a new event this year, so I am a little nervous to see how my group and I perform. The state competition is always super fun, and you become good friends with the other members from schools across the state. It is such a great atmosphere, and I enjoy being among students who are just as interested in this career field as I am.”
In addition to competing in their events, students will have the opportunity to attend several entertainment activities.
“Tomorrow night, we are going to watch a hypnotist,” Owens said. “We saw him at last year’s competition, so most of us are looking forward to witnessing the hypnosis again.”
DECA competitors will find out on Sat. if they will advance to the international round of competition in Anaheim, Calif. Good luck to all competitors!
