Hidden within the lower E Hall classrooms of Coppell High School are student masterpieces waiting to be displayed and appreciated. There comes a time each year for these young artists to show off their work in an annual showcase that hands out more than just appreciation.
The Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is a contest for student who are enrolled in art classes at CHS to enter their work in for chances to win prizes and recognition. All pieces entered by students will receive a score. If that score is a three or higher, the student artist will receive a Distinguished Achievement Plan measure for it. Certain scores can also qualify students for state VASE, a more intense competition between Texas art students where among some prizes are scholarships.
Sign ups for this competition are now available to all CHS art students through their art teachers. After signing up, students need to decide soon which pieces to enter, with a maximum of two entries per year. Those who enter will only be competing with students from around the region in their specific class so that the competition is fair to everyone. Students are highly encouraged to sign up for the regional competition held on Feb. 23.
