Lately, I have found it more and more difficult as a person without Facebook. Activities I am involved have almost made it a necessity. NHS’s volunteering opportunities and announcements are all made known through a Facebook group. Business Professionals of America, the Sidekick Newspaper, and countless other clubs have done this as well.
This trend really shows the power and ubiquity of modern social media which has consumed much of society. The question is, what will be the long term effects from personal messages and phone calls to the distant, impersonal messages of social media? Will these effects surpass the short term conveniences?
Only time will tell.
