The CHS golf team is back with clubs and all, ready for action and hoping to come back strong for the 2012-2013 season.
In addition to a few newcomers, there will be several familiar faces returning to the Coppell golf team with the goal of winning a state title. Sophomore varsity golfer Chaithra is back and ready to dominate on the course.
Katamneni’s love for the sport began when she was just 10. At that time, her father enrolled her in a summer camp and she immediately became interested in the sport.
“Golf is something that became a part of my everyday life,” Katemneni said. “I began to love it more and more from the tournaments I played, as well as the people I met.”
Katamneni, who is a scratch golfer, shot a 69 last year during the last round of the Class 5A Region I tournament and tied for first alternate for state.
“For CHS, we are expecting to go to state this year,” Katamneni said. “We basically have our same team from last year and we are pretty good with our seniors. We are also expecting to advance to regionals as well.”
Many of the members on the team feel confident for their return for this season, due to the amount of returning seniors and upperclassmen on the team.
“We think that this year we will go to state since this year we have many strong and good players. Our seniors will take good care of us,” sophomore golfer Sol Lee.
With the school year come new members. The upperclassmen are all about making everyone feel comfortable and as much like a family as possible.
“As far as being on the CHS golf team goes, the atmosphere is great,” Katamneni said. “ I love all of the people; they really know how to make you feel like you are home. Since golf is such an individual sport, playing for Coppell really gives you that sense of family.”
Incoming freshman members of the team look up to experienced golfers such as Katemini to mentor them and make them feel part of the team.
“Chaithra is really friendly with the freshman and makes them feel comfortable about being in the team,” Lee said.
