While no rash of crime has developed as of yet, the Coppell Police Department is issuing a general warning about key-bumping.
Key-bumping is a new method that burglars use to break-in to homes and businesses by using a general key in the home’s key-hole and pounding (“bumping”) it with blocks until the key activates.
Though this has not been a problem in Coppell, the police want people to know that they can act preemptively if they see fit. Many locksmiths can provide more advances key-mechanisms that, while more expensive, can protect against this kind of break-in. Using chains and deadbolts also help protect homes.
