In preparation for the upcoming Red Ribbon week, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) have begun preparing themes and decorations to place around the school in order to raise awareness about drunken decisions while driving.
The themes for next week involve: Friends Don’t Let Friends Do Drugs (twin day), Put a Cap on Drugs (hat day), Band out Drugs (wear a band T-shirt), Sock em Up (wear silly socks) and on Friday, a Red Out (wear red).
“I joined SADD because I am aware of many people who have fallen under the influence of drugs and alcohol,” junior SADD member Audrey Eichenberger said. “I want to provide a positive influence to end this sweeping epidemic.”
During the Monday meeting, SADD members gathered to discuss the themes and make red ribbons and posters to display around the school to raise awareness among the students.
The topic of the posters range between a vide variety of the different effects and ways that drugs and alcohol affect lives. A majority of them were made by students, as well as a few already in the posession of SADD sponsor, Melinda Seger. The red ribbons were pre-bought at stores, and SADD members attatched pins to the top.
“I’m excited to see the affect the ribbons have on students when they see them next week,” Eichenberger said.
