Former Utah governor and GOP candidate Jon Huntsman dropped out of the race for the republican presidential nomination on Monday after placing third in last week’s New Hampshire primary. Even before his drop, he acknowledged that expectations for him in South Carolina’s primary were “very low.”
Word of the withdrawal came on the same day The State, South Carolina’s largest newspaper, endorsed him for president.
With the suspension of his campaign, Huntsman has thrown his endorsement to current front-runner Mitt Romney. As a result of rumors, responses from other candidates were beginning to make appearances late on Sunday.
Gingrich’s campaign said, in a statement, “With Governor Huntsman dropping out, we are one step closer to a bold Reagan conservative winning the GOP nomination.”
Great.
