Students and faculty gathered in the big gym today to ‘Tackle Hunger’ by kicking off the Souper Bowl of Caring national can collecting competition. This event was a televised pep rally which Coppell was chosen to host because of their exceptional performance during last year’s Souper Bowl with over 17,000 cans collected; a nation wide blow out. For the past week students have been asked to donate cans to their 4th period classes in an effort to come together and put a dent in hunger in the North Texas area for the second year in a row.
A stage was set up in the gym with a podium for the visiting officials at this highly anticipated event. Guest speakers included the CEO of Souper Bowl of Caring, Super Bowl champion Drew Pearson, and a local student volunteer with Souper Bowl of Caring. Besides the celebration of this year’s 2,000 cans, other celebrations included congradulating the Coppell Volleyball team for their state championship and honoring Coach Julie Green for being ESPN coach of the year. The lively spirit of Coppell was present at the pep rally this morning. The students represented CHS proudly during the fight song and alma mater and even got rowdy cheering ‘Tackle Hunger’. The gym was crawling with reporters, photographers and camera crews attempting to capture every moment of the action. A special day for CHS ended in success.
