Japan has not seen the last of the earthquakes; a second quake has struck just south of the island just hours after the New Year was proclaimed according to CNN.
Thankfully, no tsunami warnings have been issued for this 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit about 302 miles from the southern end of Japan and no damage has been reported. Japan is part of an area at high risk for seismic activity, called the ‘ring of fire’, so named for the ring of volcanoes that encircle it. Japan has the largest number of earthquakes out of all civilized places in the world, with 20 percent of all the earthquakes occurring there.
No one has been reported missing or dead.
