On Nov. 12, Keep Coppell Beautiful (KCB) will be hosting an array of events in hopes to inform community members on ways to live in an environmentally friendly way.
From 9 a.m. to Noon, KCB will be offering Coppell residents the chance to dispose of cell phones, old computers, and other unwanted electronics at Town Center. The collection provides participants with an environmentally sound option for disposing of electrics. Many of these items contain toxic materials such as mercury, cadmium and lead, and disposing of them through KCB allows them to be recycled or reused, as opposed to placed in landfills.
From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., KCB will be hosting a healthy soil class designed to help build soil for home landscaping projects. The class will be held at the Helping Hands Garden at 255 Parkway Blvd and will be taught by Michael Bosco, an employee of Soils Alive in Dallas. The course is intended to explain the process soil plays in the creation of a healthy landscape, and teach participants how to tend for soil in a way that makes it most productive.
Finally, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., Keep Coppell Beautiful will host a rainwater harvesting class. The class will cover the benefits of using rainwater to irrigate landscapes, gardens and houseplants. The ‘Make and Take Rain Barrel Class’ will provide suggestions on how to utilize rain barrels in conjunction with existing home gutter systems. Participants will also have the opportunity to make their own rain barrels. Complete step-by-step instructions will be provided. Registration and a $30 fee is required.
