This week, CHS world history teacher Brian Rohloff was awarded a $10,000 makeover for his classroom courtesy of BKM. BKM is a well-known furniture company that furnishes many things, including: classrooms, offices, homes and lunch rooms.
This is the first year that BKM has offered the chance to win prize money for classroom renovations. Rohloff originally found out about this opportunity through the email blasts the administrators had sent out.
“They [BKM] sent out competition details to school districts they’ve done work for in the past,” Rohloff said. “The administration here just filtered it down to us [teachers]. I decided to take advantage of it.”
Rohloff was looking for an opportunity to fix up his overcrowded classroom.
“I was like hey this looks like this could be something really beneficial and really fun so, I did it,” Rohloff said. I put together a video and submitted it to this furnishing company.”
Rohloff beat out several other competitors from the Dallas area for the grand prize makeover. BKM has informed Rohloff that he will get to choose the renovations. But Rohloff says he’ll leave it up to the students.
“They’re going to furnish me with as many desks as I need,” Rohloff said. “They’re going to let me choose the colors, which I’m going to leave up to the kids. And they’re going to paint the walls; I’m going to leave it all up to the kids, whatever happens.”
Rohloff’s classroom will get the big renovation while students are away for Thanksgiving break. Congratulations to Mr. Rohloff and good luck with the renovations.
